Fayette County launches aluminium can recycling drive to support Firefighters Burn Foundation

Fayette County Fire & Emergency Services has launched a year-round aluminium can recycling initiative to benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation (GFBF). The programme provides residents with a convenient, ongoing way to contribute to burn care, prevention programmes, and survivor recovery services.

A dedicated recycling trailer has been placed at McCurry Park, at the corner of McDonough Road and Highway 54. Residents are encouraged to collect and rinse aluminium cans—such as soft drinks and sparkling water cans—and drop them off at the trailer at any time.

The initiative is part of the GFBF’s long-running Project R.E.A.C.H. (Recycling Every Aluminium Can Helps), which has been active since 1986. The project has recycled over four million pounds of aluminium, raising more than $2.2 million for burn units across the state.

Chief Jeffrey Hill of Fayette County Fire & Emergency Services highlighted the community impact: “This programme offers a safer and more convenient alternative to our traditional fundraising campaigns, allowing residents to support burn survivors without the need for cash donations. With community support, Fayette County has the potential to surpass other local collections, including Peachtree City, which fills its recycling trailer once a week.”

The year-round drive reinforces Fayette County’s commitment to community involvement while helping fund critical burn prevention and treatment initiatives.
