Crown wins award for promoting circular economy
Crown Holdings has been awarded the Gold prize in the Promoting Circular Economy category at the Global ESG Awards, an international forum recognising organisations advancing the United Nations’ sustainability objectives.
The award aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12, which focuses on responsible consumption and production.
Crown was recognised for its efforts to minimise waste, extend the life cycle of materials and enable resource recovery through its circular operational model.
The company highlighted the role of aluminium cans in its sustainability strategy, describing the packaging format as “infinitely recyclable” and a proven example of closed-loop material reuse. Crown noted that recycling aluminium reduces emissions and conserves energy and raw materials.
Crown also pointed to progress under its Twentyby30 program, which sets targets across climate, water, waste and social impact. In Dubai, the company said it has achieved waste-to-landfill levels below 2%, and partnerships such as its collaboration with Every Can Counts in the UAE are helping increase recycling awareness and rates. Crown is also investing in research to reduce material use in metal packaging without compromising durability.
“The award validates our leadership in creating packaging solutions that never become waste,” the company said, adding that growing global recycling infrastructure strengthens its long-term ambition to support a fully circular economy.
