Ball and Münsterland collaborate on SpongeBob cans

Ball Corporation, the global leader in sustainable aluminium packaging, has partnered with Münsterland J. Lülf GmbH to launch a playful new collection of flavoured milk drinks in aluminium cans, featuring beloved characters from the new SpongeBob SquarePants film, “Search for SquarePants,” released in December 2025.

The launch, celebrating the recent film, showcases Ball’s strength in combining premium design with compelling on-pack storytelling — turning each can into a canvas that connects brands with consumers.

This collaboration is presented in a 250ml slim can format, enhancing both visual impact and shelf appeal. The project for SpongeBob SquarePants Flavored Milk is the latest example of how advanced design and printing capabilities help brands stand out and create deeper consumer engagement through bold creative expression at the point of sale.

Münsterland, known for its range of flavoured milk drinks, introduced three limited-edition cans, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, that combine taste, nostalgia, and convenience:

  • Banana – featuring SpongeBob SquarePants
  • Strawberry – featuring Patrick Star
  • Chocolate – featuring Sandy Cheeks

Underscoring Ball and Münsterland’s commitment to sustainability, the can designs carry the playful slogan ‘Recycling macht Spaß!’ (‘Recycling is fun!’). This is intended to connect consumers of all ages to the importance of sustainability and the circularity of aluminium cans, with both consumers and the characters on the can sharing the desire to keep their respective worlds clean.

Aluminium cans are perfect for milk drinks because they preserve the flavour by protecting from light and air.

They are also ideal for consumers across the generations and those who want to enjoy a refreshing milkshake on-the-go, being lightweight, shatterproof and easy to carry.

Jag Bains, VP Commercial EMEA at Ball Corporation, said: “Beverage cans protect milk from light and air, which helps preserve its taste and nutritional value — particularly important for products with delicate flavourings like vanilla, chocolate or fruit infusions.

“They also chill quickly and stay cold longer, making them ideal for refreshing dairy drinks. We created a design that connects with consumers through familiar characters, while highlighting the circularity of aluminium. It’s a playful way to show that sustainability can be simple, engaging, and part of everyday life.”

Guenter Spiekermann, Head of Sales and Marketing at Münsterland, said: “We are excited to bring our consumers something truly special. The flavours are already fan favourites, and now, with SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy joining the line-up, they become collectible and even more enjoyable.

“At the same time, this partnership with Ball allows us to communicate the importance of recycling in a fun and accessible way.”

Ball and Münsterland share a long history of brand collaboration. This special-edition project reflects their joint commitment to packaging that combines functionality, convenience, and standout design.

The special-edition SpongeBob SquarePants cans are currently available at retailers across Germany, including EDEKA, Kaufland and Lekkerland.
