Ball recognised for sustainability during Paris Packaging Week
Ball Corporation has received international recognition for its sustainability and innovation efforts, securing awards at two major packaging industry events during Paris Packaging Week.
The company won the sustainability category at the World Aluminium Aerosol Can Awards 2025, organised by AEROBAL, for its collaboration with Alcoa and Unilever to pilot the first use of ELYSIS® carbon-free smelting technology in personal and home care packaging.
The technology eliminates direct greenhouse gas emissions from aluminium smelting by producing oxygen instead of CO₂. The resulting aerosol can combines 50% ELYSIS primary aluminium with 50% post-consumer recycled content, significantly reducing its carbon footprint and establishing a new benchmark for low-carbon personal care packaging.
Victoria Marletta, vice president commercial personal and home care at Ball Corporation, said the project demonstrated how recycled content and low-carbon primary aluminium can work together to support decarbonisation across the packaging sector.
She added that the recognition reflects Ball’s broader sustainability strategy, including its commitment to reduce absolute emissions by 55% by 2030.
Ball also received recognition through a separate innovation award presented to Natulim at the Paris Packaging Week ADF Innovation Awards 2026. Natulim, which has adopted the MEADOW KAPSUL™ refill system, received a certificate for excellence in packaging innovation in the personal care category.
The refill solution uses aluminium blanks supplied by Ball that are converted into pre-filled cartridges designed for reusable dispensers. When reused multiple times, the system can reduce material use and energy consumption compared with single-use packaging while improving logistics efficiency.
Victor Ljungberg, co-founder and CEO of Meadow, said the project aimed to expand the use of aluminium refill technology beyond the beverage sector while maintaining convenience for consumers.
Ball said the awards highlight the importance of collaboration across the value chain to accelerate sustainable packaging innovation, particularly in aluminium formats for personal care and household products.
The company employs around 16,000 people across more than 70 manufacturing sites worldwide and reported 2025 net sales of $13.16 billion.
