Water brand to use slim cans in officially relaunch
Formosa Springs has officially relaunched under new ownership, marking the return of one of North America’s oldest mineral water sources to its founding lineage.
The relaunch follows a strategic acquisition led by globally recognised wellness entrepreneur Nicholas Reichenbach, who now serves as founder and chairman. Under his leadership, the historic spring has been repositioned as a modern, premium hydration brand built around heritage, purity and long-term stewardship.
Water is drawn directly from the original artesian spring beneath the company’s historic property in Formosa, Ontario, and bottled at the source after natural filtration through limestone and mineral-rich geological strata. The initial product lineup includes still and sparkling mineral water in 750ml glass bottles and 355ml slim cans, with further expansion planned.
The company will launch a direct-to-consumer subscription platform in April 2026, featuring white-glove delivery, a membership loyalty program and early access to new products. Retail expansion across major Canadian food, drug, mass and hospitality channels is set to begin in May 2026, with entry into U.S. natural grocery and wellness retailers planned for Fall 2026.
The relaunch comes as the North American bottled water market surpasses an estimated USD $109 billion, driven by growing consumer demand for premium, purpose-driven wellness products. As much of the category relies on imported brands, Formosa Springs aims to offer a domestically sourced alternative grounded in more than 155 years of history.
For Reichenbach, the move represents a personal return. In the early 1980s, his father, Joseph Reichenbach, alongside the original Heisz family, founded the Formosa Spring Water Company, distributing the spring’s water across Ontario decades before wellness-focused hydration became mainstream.
“This is a personal and family homecoming,” Reichenbach said. “We are building this company for the next century, with uncompromising purity and deep respect for where the story began.”
Formosa Springs operates a 44,000-square-foot beverage manufacturing campus on a 10-acre site in Formosa, with glass bottling capacity exceeding 100 million units annually and future aluminium can capacity projected at up to 100 million cans per year. The vertically integrated facility also offers co-packing and contract manufacturing for non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverage partners, positioning the company for scalable growth across Canada and the United States.
Originally established in 1870 by German settlers, the historic spring has remained protected and naturally flowing through multiple ownership eras. Now locally owned once again, Formosa Springs says it intends to carry the brand forward with a renewed focus on authenticity, quality and generational stewardship.
