Clean Cult expands scent range as refillable aluminium packaging gains traction

US household cleaning brand Clean Cult has expanded its fragrance portfolio across laundry detergent, dish soap and hand soap products, as the company continues to promote refillable and low-plastic packaging formats.

The scent expansion — which introduces new fragrances such as Neroli Vetiver, Orange Blossom, Rose Petal, Mandarin Peel and Mountain Eucalyptus — represents the brand’s largest product rollout to date and is now available through online retail channels including Amazon.

Clean Cult said the new range aims to combine fragrance innovation with its sustainability-focused packaging model, which seeks to reduce plastic use in household cleaning products.

Ryan Lupberger, chief executive and co-founder of Clean Cult, said: “Today’s consumer cares about more than just cleaning power. They want beautiful fragrance, thoughtful ingredients, and packaging that reduces plastic waste.”

While the scent expansion itself focuses on product formulation, the brand’s packaging strategy has broader relevance for the metal packaging sector. Clean Cult has introduced refillable aluminium bottles for certain household cleaning products, designed to replace traditional single-use plastic containers.

The reusable bottles are paired with refill systems and paper-based cartons that significantly reduce plastic consumption compared with conventional packaging. The company says its packaging approach can cut single-use plastic by up to 90% while maintaining convenience for consumers.

This shift toward durable, refillable aluminium packaging reflects a growing trend within home-care categories as brands explore circular packaging formats and alternatives to plastic bottles.

Clean Cult products are now distributed across more than 70,000 retail outlets in the US, including major chains such as Costco, Target, Kroger and Whole Foods, alongside online channels.

For the metal packaging industry, the brand’s adoption of refillable aluminium containers highlights increasing opportunities for metal formats beyond traditional beverage and aerosol applications, particularly as sustainability concerns drive experimentation with reusable packaging systems.
