Canned water brand mainelove CEO recognised as Business Leader of the Year
mainelove has announced that its CEO and co-founder Jen Millard has been named Business Leader of the Year by Mainebiz, as the aluminium-packaged water brand continues to expand its presence in the US market.
The award recognises business leaders driving innovation and community impact. Millard was selected for building mainelove into a sustainability-focused brand centred on recyclable aluminium packaging and local sourcing.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive this recognition from Mainebiz,” said Millard. “mainelove started with a simple idea, that even everyday choices, like the water we drink, can have a positive impact.”
Founded in Maine, the company packages spring water sourced from Sebago Lake in aluminium cans, positioning the format as an alternative to single-use plastic bottles. The brand has also focused on partnerships with local organisations and artists as part of its community-led approach.
For the metal packaging sector, the growth of canned water brands such as mainelove reflects continued diversification of aluminium beverage cans beyond traditional soft drinks and beer. Increasing consumer demand for sustainable packaging formats is driving adoption of aluminium across categories including water, where plastic has historically dominated.
The company said it has expanded rapidly since launch, reaching more than 600 retail locations in Maine and extending distribution into New Hampshire and Massachusetts. A further launch in Florida is planned for later in 2026.
The recognition of Millard comes as brands using aluminium packaging continue to position recyclability and circularity as key differentiators in competitive beverage markets.
The Mainebiz Entrepreneur of the Year awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Portland, Maine, on 14 April 2026.
