Simmons Pet Food to increase canning capacity

Simmons Pet Food new facility

Simmons Pet Food announced plans to add 3-oz canning capacity as part of its investment and expansion in the wet pet food space.

This announcement is part of a three-year capital investment of more than $500 million.

“Our commitment to high-quality nutrition and pet parent preferences is creating strong demand for our customers,” said Scott Salmon, president of Simmons Pet Food.

“We are excited about the opportunities ahead to take care of our customers and make more food for the pets we love. To do this, we plan to make significant investments in new capacity for three-ounce canned pet food, to come online in 2023.”

Earlier this year, Simmons opened its newest wet pet food plant in Iowa following a $100million investment.

The 275,000-square-foot facility is expected to increase the company’s total wet pet food production capacity to 168 million units per year.

The company said this expansion will be followed by a Phase Two expansion that will further increase Simmons’ total wet pet food capacity to 408 million units per year.

“As we execute this growth plan, we are making strategic choices about how we invest our resources and align our actions with our vision to be the most trusted partner in the industry for food that nourishes and delights the pets we love,” Salmon added.

“That is why, we are also transitioning the resources currently dedicated to our dry pet food and pet treats operations to the wet pet food business.”
