TBC Ball Beverage Can Vietnam gets ASI certified

Ball Corporation

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that TBC Ball Beverage Can Vietnam Limited has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard (Provisional) and Chain of Custody Standard for responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminium for its production facility outside Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The plant’s Performance Standard Provisional Certification has been achieved under the ASI Interim Policy regarding Audits, Audit-Related Travel and Coronavirus, which clarifies the reasonable accommodations that can be made to audit plans in consideration of the current COVID-19 situation.

The independent, third-party audits of the TBC Ball Beverage Can Vietnam Limited plant were carried out by LiberoAssurance. The audit was undertaken as a ‘desktop’ exercise with a remote review of relevant documentation.

Some criteria requiring on-site evaluation by the auditor will be evaluated when an on-site audit can be scheduled.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said: “ASI congratulates Ball Corporation on achieving dual ASI Certification at this joint-venture facility, the first ASI Certified plant in Vietnam.

“Not content to stop at certifying all of its 67 wholly owned beverage packaging plants, the Ball Corporation continues to show leadership in sustainability by working, in coordination with its joint venture partners, to introduce and implement operating policies consistent with ASI’s industry-leading environmental, social and governance criteria.”

Michael Alexander, Vietnam plant manager at Ball Corporation, said: “The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Certification assures our customers that our production facility is operating in line with rigorous environmental, ethical and governance principles, in accordance with the ASI Standards.

“As consumers seek more environmentally friendly products, they can have even more confidence in aluminium’s strong sustainability credentials.”
