Heyday Canning Co launches new canned bean range

Canned food startup Heyday Canning Co has launched six new products aimed to provide a sustainable and affordable protein source.

The company was founded by Jamie Tulley and former Clif Bar and Sweet Earth exec Kat Kavner.

Their aim is modernise the canned food category and their new line of products will feature classic bean stapes such as chickpeas, navy, cannellini and black beans, which are cooked in a variety of sources.

The brand’s first six flavours includes: 

  • Harissa Lemon Chickpeas
  • Kimchi Sesame Navy Beans
  • Coconut Curry Chickpeas
  • Tomato alla Vodka Cannellini Beans
  • Enchilada Black Beans 
  • Apricot Glazed Baked Beans 

“It was really birthed by Covid-19 and the stay-at-home orders,” Kavner told FoodNavigator-USA. “Like everybody else, we were going to the grocery store and loading up on canned food, but the category seemed pretty staid and stagnant, and we had this lightbulb moment.

“Could we completely reimagine canned foods, starting with an unrelenting emphasis on favour and quality and designing food that resonates with a new generation of young people.”
