Simmons Pet Food announces closure of Streetsville location

Simmons Pet Food new facility

Simmons Pet Food has announced a strategic decision to further centralise production and distribution to better serve customers.

As part of this initiative, the canning facility in Streetsville, Ontario, Canada, will close by the end of the year. This decision reflects the company’s commitment to delivering the highest quality products and services to its customers.

The closure, expected to occur by the end of 2024, affects approximately 190 team members working at the Streetsville location. Simmons is committed to supporting all impacted team members during this transition period. The company will offer comprehensive support packages, including separation pay and career counseling services to assist team members in finding new employment opportunities.

“Over the last three years, Simmons Pet Food has invested aggressively in expanding capacity and capabilities in Emporia, Kansas, and Dubuque, Iowa, with the intent to strengthen and grow our business. This is the next step in that strategic plan to position Simmons Pet Food as the most trusted industry partner,” said Scott Salmon, president of Simmons Pet Food. “The Streetsville location has been an important part of our company’s history. We are deeply grateful for the hard work and dedication of all our team members in Streetsville and are fully committed to supporting them through this transition.”

The centralisation of operations will enable Simmons Pet Food to leverage advancements in optimised production processes, packaging automation, and new distribution centre locations to better serve its customers. Recent additions of two distribution centres in Edgerton, Kansas, and Dubuque, Iowa, support the primary canning locations in Emporia, Kansas, and Dubuque, Iowa.

Simmons Pet Food is optimistic about the future and its ability to serve its customers by making food that nourishes and delights the pets we love.
