AEROBAL reveals 2024 World Aluminium Aerosol Can Awards winners
AEROBAL has revealed the recipients of the World Aluminium Aerosol Can Awards 2024. An international panel of trade journalists from top packaging and can industry magazines, including World Aerosols, chose the winners across three categories: “Aluminium Aerosol Cans Already on the Market,” “Prototypes,” and “Sustainability.”
Thanks to the competition’s high standards and the judges’ expertise, the AEROBAL Award is globally recognised as a benchmark for excellence in aluminium aerosol can manufacturing.
Aluminium Aerosol Cans Already on the Market
This category saw two winners: Trivium Packaging USA and Turkish manufacturer Aryum. Aryum’s award-winning can was designed for a premium men’s non-gas perfume from J. Company, Pakistan’s leading fashion and fragrance brand, created by J. Junaid Jamshed Pvt Ltd., in honor of the late musician and designer of the same name. Seeking a cutting-edge aluminium can solution for its new non-gas perfume line, the company selected Aryum’s innovative technology, which features “360° Embossed Shaping with Oriented Printing.”
This technique emphasises the “J.” brand with a square embossed shape, giving the can a distinctive look and tactile appeal. The jury praised the unique characteristic and the tactile experience provided by the all-around shaping, which, combined with the striking colours and design, effectively differentiates the brand.
The second winning can was developed by Trivium Packaging USA for Grand Tongo, an insect repellent brand from Newport Beach, California. This 50×165 mm aluminium can, with a flat shoulder, showcases technical innovation aligned with the brand’s commitment to sustainability. A notable feature is the use of a bag-on-valve system, which ensures a fine mist spray and reduces waste. Additionally, the twist-lock cap prevents accidental discharge, enhancing safety during transport and storage. The minimalistic design and subtle colour accents help convey the product’s environmentally conscious philosophy while aiding consumer orientation.
Prototypes
In the “Prototypes” category, Nussbaum secured the top spot with its 15 bar aerosol cans, which feature a 40mm diameter and a novel segment thread paired with compatible screw caps. These cans set new benchmarks for safety, usability, and sustainability. The segment thread design allows for easy and secure attachment of a screw cap, preventing accidental discharge during transport or daily use. The screw cap is resilient enough to withstand impacts during transportation, safeguarding the contents and preventing the nozzle from being triggered unintentionally. The cans are also highly versatile, making them suitable for various sectors, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, personal care, household, and industrial applications. Furthermore, the recyclable screw caps meet the company’s high environmental standards.
Sustainability
The “Sustainability” award was claimed by Trivium Packaging Brazil for Adidas’ “Best of the Best” aluminium can, part of a deodorant project in collaboration with the Champions League, licensed by Coty Global. The can design, developed in partnership with Adidas, features intricate “fingerprint” details in pink against a blue background, utilising a special ink process for added visual impact. The 45×148 mm can with a flat shoulder was made using PivotAL™, an advanced aluminium alloy containing up to 25% recycled content. This alloy, produced using renewable energy and an innovative liquid-phase process that eliminates the need to melt ingots, significantly reduces carbon emissions. The internal varnish was also reduced by nearly 50%, further minimising the can’s environmental footprint.
