Sherwin-Williams acquires Henkel’s Metal Packaging Coatings business

The Sherwin-Williams Company has completed the acquisition of Henkel’s Metal Packaging Coatings business, effective 1 October 2024.

The business develops, manufactures and sells packaging coatings for food and household product segments under the Apperta, Darex and Sistiaga brands. The Darex brand will be licensed to Sherwin-Williams temporarily for a select metal packaging coatings portfolio, to ensure the continuity of the business. With production facilities in Germany and Mexico as well as additional sales and technical support throughout the globe, the business employs approximately 130 people and is now part of the Sherwin-Williams Performance Coatings Group, Global Packaging Division.

The packaging division of Sherwin-Williams manufactures and sells a wide range of packaging coatings with a focus on large can-makers and brand owners who require high-performance solutions for light metal packaging in over 100 countries worldwide. The combination of Sherwin-Williams and Henkel’s Metal Packaging Coatings business provides a broader selection of technologies and solutions for customers with an enhanced product range, expanded manufacturing footprint, and deeper sales and technical support.

“We are excited to welcome the talented employees from Henkel’s metal packaging coatings business to Sherwin-Williams,” said Burt Marchman, president and general manager, Global Packaging Coatings Division. “Acquiring this business enhances our technology, manufacturing and service capabilities, which aligns with our growth strategy and allows us to better serve our customers globally.”
