Sustainaholics launches 100% recycled aluminium spirits minis

Sustainaholics, in collaboration with Lagardère Travel Retail and Compass Supply Solutions, has introduced a groundbreaking line of spirits in fully recycled 5cl aluminium bottles at UK airports.

These innovative bottles, now available at Discover London stores, are designed to offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional packaging.

London-based Sustainaholics made its first foray into travel retail in 2023, focusing on lightweight, space-efficient aluminium bottles tailored for airline service. The brand expanded its reach in March 2024, when select products were added to British Airways and easyJet in-flight menus.

Founder David Mills highlighted the advantages of the aluminium bottles, stating that they are made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials, weigh 90% less than glass, and reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional glass and PET bottles. “They are designed to be both shatterproof and ultra-compact, making them highly efficient for travel,” Mills explained.

The Sustainaholics range at Discover London stores includes premium spirits such as Black Cow Vodka, Wildjac Cherry Spiced Rum, Wildjac Fresh Citrus Vodka, Hyke Gin, and Penrhos Gin. Pricing starts at £3.99 (US$4.99) for a single 5cl bottle, while a gift set of five Penrhos bottles is available for £13.99 (US$17.50).

“We’re delighted to see our 100% recycled aluminis now available in UK airport duty-free stores,” Mills said. “It gives us a wonderful opportunity to showcase the spirits industry’s commitment to sustainable innovation here in London, one of aviation’s most important global hubs.

“We need to see a far more rapid and urgent adoption of the lower impact alternative packaging formats that now exist for spirits, moving away from an entirely avoidable dependence on the high impact choices of heavy, energy intensive glass or single use PET plastic that continue to dominate a travel industry that should be taking a far stronger lead than it does today.”
