LNER offer Sustainaholics’ alumini bottles

Travellers enjoying First Class on London North Eastern Railway (LNER) trains between London and Scotland can now experience a refreshed drinks menu featuring a trio of sustainable spirits.

Among the new offerings are Dutch Barn Vodka, Ellers Farm Distillery’s Y-Gin, and Common Ground Whisky from Scotland, all packaged in Sustainaholics’ innovative alumini® bottles made entirely from recycled aluminium.

This collaboration unites like-minded brands that prioritise environmental responsibility and a drive to innovate—aligning well with LNER’s commitment to low-carbon travel by rail.

Crafted in Yorkshire, both Dutch Barn Vodka and Y-Gin are produced using British apples and a tailored distillation method. Dutch Barn Vodka is praised for its smooth, crisp character, while Y-Gin reimagines the London Dry style with a nod to Yorkshire’s rich culinary roots, emphasising eco-friendly production.

Common Ground Whisky, a recent release by Brand Tap Group, adds a Scottish touch with its premium blended Scotch offering. All three spirits are presented in alumini packaging—produced from 100% post-consumer recycled aluminium—minimising the carbon footprint and reducing the need for virgin materials. This approach also streamlines packaging volume, further lowering emissions across the logistics chain.

In line with LNER’s ‘zero waste to landfill’ goal, every alumini bottle used is fully recyclable, supporting a continuous recycling loop.

Chris Fraser, founder of Ellers Farm Distillery, noted: “We’ve always taken pride in doing things differently. Partnering with LNER, a pioneer in sustainable rail travel, felt like a natural alignment of purpose and values.”

David Mills, founder of Sustainaholics, added: “This collaboration sets a new benchmark—delivering quality, sustainability, and innovation. LNER is leading the way as the first train operator to introduce alumini, signalling a shift away from traditional glass and PET miniature bottles in favour of a greener future.”
