Are you a driven and experienced Key Account Manager with a passion for building strong, long-term relationships with large global brands?
Packaging Steel, based at Trostre in South Wales is a leader of industry, supplying material into well-known household brands and products such as Kraft Heinz. In addition to our distribution within the UK, our Packaging Steels from Trostre Works are also distributed across Europe, United States of America and ROW markets. Material is the majority spend for these customers making discussions on pricing, improvement and development activities crucial to the organisation’s success. Effective strategic account management is essential to align internal cross functional teams with customer requirements and market trends. The Packaging Sector is unique in its exciting opportunities to push the recycling and sustainability agenda throughout the supply chain and within local communities including our new initiative ‘Electrifying Packaging Steel’.
What you will do:
As a Key Account Manager, you won’t just manage client accounts— you will directly contribute to the evolution of the Packaging sector, driving key initiatives in sustainability and innovation. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining and expanding relationships with several large international customers. You’ll be an integral part of a close knit team of Key Account Managers and Inside Sales Support whilst benefiting from a wealth of expertise, knowledge and support from the wider Commercial and Packaging teams.
Our customers play a key role in the overall strategy for the Packaging Sector, as a Key Account Manager you will be accountable for achieving sales targets whilst leading the customer account planning cycle and ensuring assigned customers’ needs and expectations are met. This role will also include elements of business development within your key account and new accounts within the sector.
This role offers the flexibility of hybrid working and the ability to work out of a number of our UK sites. The account portfolio comprises of well-known international brands, requiring domestic and international travel. This travel will provide you with the opportunity to visit top-tier customers, explore new partnerships, build more meaningful relationships and influence key decisions across borders. In addition to this, there will be an expectation of occasional travel to our Trostre site in Llanelli and to visit customers within the portfolio.
As part of your role you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Conducting customer visits, negotiating and agreeing sales contracts; including deployment of the agreed Account Plan with the customer on prices, volumes, Service Level Agreements, etc.
- Establishing and managing productive, professional relationships with key personnel in assigned customer accounts.
- Tactfully solving issues of account under-performance with respect to our requirements from that customer relationship.
- Generating complete customer visit reports after each customer visit
- Providing insight on customer and market intelligence gained from regular face to face customer contact, validating and forecasting customer needs on an ongoing basis.
- Proactively lead a joint company- strategic Account planning process, that develops mutual performance objectives, financial targets and critical milestones for the short and medium term.
- Routinely measure account performance against plan and act to coordinate company resources to ensure profitable sales volumes and strategic objectives are achieved in accordance with account performance objectives and customers’ expectations
- Based on the analysis of the inside sales team, jointly define the compelling value propositions and develop a clear roadmap to build a sustainable and profitable relationship with target accounts.
- Business development opportunities within key account or identifying new potential opportunities.
What you will need:
- Extensive experience in a Key Account Manager role within the packaging, steel or metals industry.
- Proven business development skills.
- Experience of manging international accounts.
- Strong negotiation skills and excellent communication skills.
- Educated to degree level in Business, Marketing or related field.
- A willingness to travel internationally.
- A resilient attitude with the ability to manage customer expectations and demands
