North Coast Brewing cans its beer for first time

North Coast Brewing Company’s two flagship brews, Red Seal Ale and PranQster Belgian Style Golden Ale, are now available in 12 oz cans for the first time.

This move comes alongside the launch of a new in-house canning line, which the brewery says will improve packaging flexibility and consistency.

Red Seal Ale, first brewed in 1988, and PranQster, introduced in 1995, have long been staples for the California-based brewery.

“These beers have been with us since the early days, in bottles and on draft,” said CEO/CFO Jennifer Owen. “Canning them for the first time is not just a packaging update—it’s a celebration of their legacy and a way to bring them to more people in a more convenient package.”

The shift also brings a sustainability boost. Alongside the new cans, North Coast Brewing is rolling out Eco-Rings: compostable can holders made from plant fibers. Unlike traditional plastic rings, Eco-Rings fully biodegrade, helping reduce waste and protect wildlife.

Six-packs of Red Seal Ale and four-packs of PranQster in 12 oz cans are now available at select retailers, the brewery shop, and online where shipping laws permit. The cans feature refreshed labels that pay tribute to the originals while giving them a modern look.

“We’re proud to pair this historic canning release with a packaging innovation that reflects our values,” Owen added. “Eco-Rings are a step forward for the planet and for craft beer.
