Alupro helps local authorities get ready for Simpler Recycling

Local authorities in England can now take advantage of free online resources to help residents recycle packaging more effectively.

The resources, which include animations and social media graphics, can be easily downloaded from the Alupro website.

Simpler Recycling comes into force on 31 March 2026. Aimed at boosting recycling rates, the new legislation requires dry materials (glass, metal and plastic) to be collected separately from card and paper, food, garden waste and general waste.

Simpler Recycling also mandates that local authorities provide clear information to households about what can and cannot be recycled.

Alupro’s new online toolkit – Simply Love Your Recycling! – explains what can be collected at the kerbside and how best to present packaging for recycling. Designed to inspire widespread behavioural change, the resources tackle common misconceptions and provide useful tips to prevent valuable material from being unnecessarily landfilled.

Residents will learn, at a glance, best practices such as rinsing and scrunching wrapping foil before placing it in their recycling bin, or leaving metal screw caps on empty bottles.

Tom Giddings, executive director of Alupro, commented: “Simpler Recycling has the potential to help the UK take a significant step forward towards a more circular economy. However, clear communication and educating households is key to delivering the biggest possible impact.

“Our Simply Love Your Recycling! resources aim to help local authorities engage with residents and improve kerbside recycling behaviours.”

Simply Love Your Recycling! is the latest addition to a series of free online resources developed by Alupro to help raise awareness of aluminium recycling and inspire widespread consumer action. These useful tools include dedicated educational materials, templates and a free image library.
