UK DRS administrator rebrands as Exchange for Change

The UK Deposit Management Organisation (UK DMO) has officially unveiled its new trading name — Exchange for Change — as part of ongoing preparations for the rollout of the UK’s Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).

The not-for-profit body, tasked with designing and delivering the DRS across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, says the new name reflects the simple action at the heart of the scheme: consumers returning empty drinks containers in exchange for their deposit. The initiative aims to cut litter, boost recycling rates and support the transition to a more circular economy.

As well as the name change, Exchange for Change has introduced a new brand icon that will appear on all eligible single-use PET plastic, aluminium and steel bottles and cans — and at return points — once the scheme launches. The recognisable visual mark is intended to make it easier for shoppers to identify in-scope containers and understand where to take them for refunds.

Russell Davies, CEO of Exchange for Change, said the new identity is designed to help people “make a simple change that has the power to transform streets, communities and recycling habits across the UK.”

The UK’s Deposit Return Scheme is scheduled to go live in October 2027, with the new branding expected to help producers, retailers and other stakeholders prepare packaging and infrastructure ahead of the launch.
