New solar installation at Crown’s Seville plant
Crown Packaging Manufacturing Spain has installed a new photovoltaic solar energy system at its beverage can manufacturing facility in Seville, marking another step in the company’s efforts to increase renewable energy use across its global operations.
The installation forms part of Crown’s broader sustainability roadmap, which aims to achieve 100% renewable electricity across all global operations by 2040 under its Twentyby30 programme. The Seville project contributes to that goal by expanding on-site renewable energy generation at the plant.
The project received financial support from the European Union through the NextGenerationEU Fund as part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Funding was awarded under an incentive programme promoting self-consumption linked to renewable energy sources, administered by the regional government, the Junta de Andalucía, through the Andalusian Energy Agency with participation from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).
In total, the initiative received €201,125.16 in public funding to support the installation of photovoltaic solar panels at the facility.
Now fully operational, the solar system is expected to generate approximately 4,004,198 kWh of renewable electricity each year. This output will account for around 12% of the plant’s annual electricity consumption, helping to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.
The project reflects Crown’s site-level approach to decarbonisation, complementing wider efforts to expand renewable energy sourcing across its global manufacturing network.
