PERM Machine & Tool Co. acquires Epic Products
PERM Machine & Tool Co a global leader in metal decorating and canmaking equipment, has announced the acquisition of Epic Products International. This strategic move solidifies PERM’s position as a premier single-source supplier, combining decades of engineering excellence to serve the global metal packaging market.
A Legacy of Innovation
The acquisition unites two long-standing entities in the printing and coating technology sector:
- PERM Machine & Tool Co. (est. 1970): Known for its specialisation in HOE Printing Presses, Wagner Coaters, and Wicket Ovens, PERM has been a cornerstone of the food and general line can-making industry for over 50 years.
- Epic Products International (est. 1977): Built on the Dahlgren family legacy dating back to 1958, Epic is recognized for developing the Epic Delta Dampening System, which significantly improved offset printing quality by eliminating hickeys and increasing efficiency.
Strategic Growth & Market Expansion
This acquisition marks the third major expansion for PERM Machine under the leadership of President and CEO Lee Milazzo. It follows the 2006 acquisition of the HOE brand and the 2023 purchase of C&S Machinery.
“This acquisition marks an important milestone for our company,” said Lee Milazzo. “By combining our resources and talent with Epic, we are better positioned to deliver innovative solutions, accelerate growth, and provide greater value to our customers.”
Impact on the Metal Packaging Industry
By integrating Epic’s dampening systems with PERM’s press and oven technologies, the company aims to offer metal packagers a more comprehensive suite of services, including:
- Integrated Technology: A unified source for press parts, coaters, and advanced dampening systems.
- Expanded Distribution: Strengthened global reach and enhanced technical support capabilities.
- Operational Synergy: Combining PERM’s manufacturing scale with Epic’s history of printing innovation.
Transition and Integration Timeline
PERM is currently in the process of winding down operations at Epic’s Cedar Hills, Texas, location. This phase includes completing the current order backlog, transferring proprietary technology, and finalizing the integration of internal systems.
The company anticipates that the full transition to PERM’s Headquarters in St. John, Indiana, will be completed by June 30, 2026. During this period, PERM has stated its commitment to ensuring continued high-level customer service and support for all existing Epic Products clients.
