Matchi launches canned cafe-quality protein matcha latte
Matchi Global, an Alexandria, Virginia beverage company, has launched Matchi, a line of canned protein matcha lattes that redefine the category. Each shelf-stable 8.4 oz can delivers ceremonial-grade matcha, traditionally shaded and milled from first spring leaves for natural sweetness and a nutty finish, paired with 20 grams of complete filtered milk protein containing all nine essential amino acids, plus 4 grams of prebiotic fibre. The launch marks the entry of the first U.S. matcha-first brand into the rapidly expanding high-protein beverage market.
“We’re not a protein drink company with matcha. We’re a matcha company with 20 grams of protein, including all nine essential amino acids from filtered milk protein, and prebiotic fiber built in,” said Jordan Martinez, Founder of Matchi Global LLC and U.S. Air Force veteran. “If you love matcha, this is for you. If you tried matcha once and wrote it off, this is especially for you.”
Matchi launches with three flavours, vanilla, lavender, and banana, all built on the same recipe architecture. Each can contains no artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners, or preservatives, delivering approximately 120 mg of caffeine, roughly comparable to a strong espresso. The flavour experience is latte-first: creamy oat opens the sip, the flavour becomes distinct through the middle, and smooth matcha carries the finish. The protein adds body without pushing the drink into shake territory.
Matchi enters a market at an inflection point. The U.S. high-protein shakes category reached $8.1 billion in 2025, up 71% from $4.7 billion in 2021. Meanwhile, U.S. matcha demand reached $478.8 million in 2024, projected to grow to $762.6 million by 2030. North America has been identified as the fastest-growing matcha region globally.
No established U.S. player currently owns cafe-quality protein matcha in a can. Adjacent brands offer canned matcha without meaningful protein, or protein without a matcha-first experience. Matchi deliberately positions itself in the gap between them.
Matchi’s formulation reflects eleven rounds of development guided by a single rule: if a taster takes more than three or four seconds to say, “This is great,” it is not done. The result is a drink that honours matcha tradition while delivering the functional benefits modern consumers expect.
