Canned wine brand gains B Corp certification

The Uncommon, a canned English sparkling wine brand, has received certification as a B Corporation.

It is the first UK-based winemaker to achieve this status after meeting rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.

The Uncommon was founded in 2018 by Henry Connell and Alex Thraves with just 10,000 cans.

In 2022, the brand is set to double production for the fourth year running and is available through nationwide retailers including Waitrose, M&S and Selfridges, as well as its E-commerce store.

Henry Connell, co-founder of The Uncommon told The Drinks Business: “We achieved a high B Corp score due to our fully domestic supply chain, commitment to local production, and support of local conversation projects and the environment.

“Our vineyards are all in the Southeast of England within 50 miles of our Sustainable Wine of Great Britain accredited winery. 5% of our revenue then goes towards UK based conservation projects.”
