Starbucks RTD coffee beverage recalled

PepsiCo Inc. has recalled a canned Starbucks coffee energy drink over risks it could be contaminated with “foreign materials” or metal fragments.

The recall affects 221 cases of Starbucks Vanilla Espresso Triple Shot Energy Coffee Beverage.

The ready-to-drink beverage is promoted as ‘extra strength’ with 225mg of caffeine per can with ‘a hint of French vanilla flavour and a touch of cream’.

Each case contains 12 cans of the 15-ounce drinks, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported in its announcement on its website Sept. 8. The recall began Aug. 15.

The recalled cans were sold in stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

“Delivering a quality experience to our consumers is our top priority and we always act with an abundance of caution whenever a potential concern is raised,” the statement read.

The Vanilla Espresso Triple Shot beverage recall isn’t directly tied to Starbucks restaurants.
