Energy drink cans mistakenly filled with vodka
US authorities are urging consumers to inspect certain Celsius energy drink cans after some were mistakenly filled with vodka.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the alert for the Celsius Astro Vibe Sparkling Blue Razz variety. The error occurred when a packaging supplier accidentally sent empty Celsius-branded cans to the alcoholic beverage company High Noon, which then filled them with vodka seltzer.
As a result, High Noon has announced a recall of its Beach Variety packs. The FDA noted that no illnesses or other health issues have been reported related to the affected products.
The recall applies to two specific production lots listed on the FDA’s website. The products were distributed to stores in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin between July 21 and July 23.
The recalled High Noon Beach Variety packs carry UPC code 085000040065 and the following lot codes:
- L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59
- L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00
The affected Celsius cans carry UPC code 8 89392 00134 1 and lot codes:
- L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11
Lot codes can be found laser-printed on the bottom of the cans.
The FDA advises consumers to discard any Celsius Astro Vibe Sparkling Blue Razz cans with these lot codes and not to drink their contents. High Noon Beach Variety packs with other lot codes are not part of the recall and remain safe to consume.
