Molson Coors halves direct emissions in UK and Ireland
Molson Coors Beverage Company, brewer of some of the UK’s biggest beer and cider brands including Carling, Madri Excepcional and Aspall Cyder, has released its global sustainability report for 2025.
The ‘2025 Our Imprint Report’ summarises progress throughout 2024 against the business’s sustainability goals, covering global activities as well as performance at a regional level.
For the UK & Ireland business specifically, the annual report reveals that Molson Coors Beverage Company has surpassed its target to halve Scope 1 & 2 emissions (against a 2016 baseline), demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable operations.
The brewer’s progress has been driven by significant investments across its UK and Ireland operations, including the installation of a brand new 24-tonne high-speed 120,000 cans per hour filler at its Burton brewery, along with upgrades to the packaging keg lines at both Tadcaster Brewery and Aspall Cyder House.
These strategic investments have enabled Molson Coors to streamline its canning operations, dramatically reducing energy consumption and material waste while optimising resource allocation throughout the brewing process.
The company is also working to reduce its impact while out on the road. Both by reducing commercial transport mileage through improved remote diagnostics and combined maintenance visits where possible, and also through updating fleet vehicles. So far in 2025 20 vans in the fleet have been replaced with plug-in hybrids, and a further four with fully electric models.
Hitting the emissions reduction target comes as work on the brewer’s new Burton-on-Trent headquarters is completed. The new premises, which holds an EPC rating of A, extensively incorporates energy efficient technology – including LED lighting, low water-use systems, and solar panels.
The upgrades follow Molson Coors also switching to 100% renewable electricity for all of its UK brewing operations in 2021, entering into an exclusive power purchase agreement with the Tween Bridge Wind farm near Doncaster.
Craig Woodburn, Sustainability Director for Molson Coors’ EMEA APAC division, said: “Our 2025 Imprint Report demonstrates that sustainability isn’t just about environmental responsibility – it’s about innovation, efficiency, and building a stronger business for the future.
“The progress we’ve made across emissions reduction, sustainable facilities, and operational efficiency shows that our commitment to environmental stewardship is delivering real results while strengthening our connection to the communities we serve.
“The goal now is to continue to expand our sustainability practices and really focus on bringing our people and suppliers with us on this journey.”
Molson Coors recently rolled out comprehensive Sustainability E-learning to all colleagues, leading to the establishment of NEST (Network for Environmental Sustainability and Transformation), the company’s internal sustainability champions group.
Through the Molson Coors Growers Group – a network of over 130 farmers – the brewer is also undergoing work to understand and implement emissions reduction methods in the agricultural sector, alongside strategic partnerships with packaging suppliers to help them establish clear net zero objectives.
