North South Wines acquires canned wine brand

North South Wines has acquired the When in Rome canned wine brand, bringing together two B Corp–certified businesses with a shared focus on sustainability, transparency and quality.

The deal marks a strategic move for North South Wines as it looks to expand its portfolio of sustainable products and alternative wine formats, while continuing to offer consumers a wider range of choice at accessible prices.

Founded with the aim of introducing high-quality Italian wines to the UK market, When in Rome has built a strong reputation as a pioneer in alternative packaging. The brand is best known for its canned wines, bag-in-box formats and paper bottles — all designed to reduce environmental impact compared with traditional glass.

When in Rome sources its wines directly from independent Italian producers and packages them in formats that appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. Its approach has helped challenge long-standing perceptions about non-traditional wine packaging, earning industry recognition for both quality and sustainability.

North South Wines said the acquisition strengthens its commitment to responsible business practices and supports its ambition to grow in the fast-developing market for lower-impact wine packaging. The company believes the move will accelerate innovation in the category and give more shoppers access to wines that combine sustainability with convenience and quality.

The two companies’ shared B Corp status underlines their common values, with both organisations committed to balancing commercial success with positive social and environmental impact.
