Speira introduces product passport for aluminium

Speira has introduced a new Digital Product Passport designed to set a higher standard for transparency and traceability in the aluminium industry.

Called speira.ID, the system gives customers access to detailed sustainability and production data for every individual coil – all in one place. Information includes carbon footprint, recycled content, chemical composition and full production history, from casting to rolling.

According to Hendrik Heck, Speira’s Head of Strategic Projects and Digital Transformation, the initiative reflects the company’s wider commitment to building a more circular and transparent industry. “Sustainability is not only about reducing emissions – it’s also about openness in how we produce and operate,” he said.

Through Speira’s customer portal, users can download a digital passport for each coil, either individually or in bulk, with data updated automatically through an integrated system. With customer consent, a simplified version of the passport can also be shared via a QR code on finished products, giving downstream partners and consumers easy access to key sustainability information.

Speira says the platform marks an important step towards end-to-end traceability, helping materials move more efficiently back into recycling streams by clearly identifying their composition. It also aims to future-proof customers as reporting requirements around sustainability, origin and CO₂ emissions continue to grow.

By combining real-time data, digital identities for products and streamlined compliance tools, Speira believes speira.ID will soon become a benchmark for accountability and trust across the aluminium value chain.
