LuxTronic targets end-of-line beverage can defects with AI
LuxTronic has launched an AI-powered vision inspection system designed to detect defects during the final stages of beverage can and other packaging production, as products move from the production line to the finished pallet.
FinalCheck uses three top-down cameras positioned at the accumulation table, divider section and pallet well, allowing aluminium can producers, glass bottle manufacturers and other packaging operations to continuously inspect products during the final stages of production.
LuxTronic said increasing automation in palletising has created a quality-control blind spot in which downed cans, inverted units, missing product and coating defects can pass through undetected. At line speed, operators can also struggle to maintain unit-level visibility across large volumes of moving product.
When FinalCheck identifies a defect that meets a facility’s defined threshold, it can stop the line, log the event and capture an image. Every layer of every pallet receives a documented inspection record.

Three-stage inspection
FinalCheck uses a three-stage architecture, with the response depending on where a defect is detected:
- Prevent: A defect identified at the accumulation table is removed before reaching the divider, preventing it from becoming a layer, pallet or order problem.
- Intercept: If a defect passes the accumulation table, facility-defined alerts or line stops at the divider allow operators to intervene before affected units are added to a pallet.
- Contain: Where defects result from an upstream equipment issue or process failure and occur across consecutive layers, FinalCheck’s layer-by-layer inspection records allow teams to identify the affected pallets and layers, rather than placing a broader volume of production on hold.
