SGX launches aerosol piloting services in North America
SGX has expanded its metal decorating capabilities with the launch of a dedicated in-house aerosol print testing service in North America.
The new capability addresses a long-standing challenge in aerosol packaging development. Until now, brands have had limited opportunity to physically test and refine designs before committing to full production, as aerosol print testing typically required valuable time on commercial presses. That meant interrupting high-volume manufacturing for printers while leaving brands with only a narrow window to evaluate designs and implement changes before final production.
By bringing aerosol testing in-house, SGX is changing that process. Brand owners can now commission dedicated short-run test prints, physically assess designs on the finished aerosol container, conduct internal reviews or consumer testing, and refine artwork long before production begins. The result is greater creative confidence, faster decision-making and reduced risk before committing to commercial print.
Commercial printers also benefit. Rather than sacrificing valuable production time for development testing, printers can continue operating at full capacity while SGX configures its pilot press to mirror each printer’s production specifications, providing realistic print outcomes without disrupting manufacturing schedules.
The launch builds on SGX’s metal decorating pilot capabilities for beverage cans, which have successfully supported clients in refining packaging before production. As demand for premium aerosol packaging continues to grow across beauty, personal care and household categories, SGX has invested in dedicated aerosol tooling to extend that capability.
Bill Cook, Key Accounts Director at SGX, said: “This capability was developed directly in response to conversations with both our clients and our print partners. Brands want the freedom to experiment, evaluate and improve designs before they’re locked into production, while printers understandably want to keep commercial presses focused on production rather than development work.
“Our aerosol pilot service gives both sides exactly what they’ve been looking for. Brands gain greater creative freedom and confidence, while printers maintain productivity. It’s a better outcome for everyone involved.”
Oscar Carcamo, Director of Operations – Metal Deco at SGX, added: “Today’s brands are pushing aerosol packaging further than ever before. They’re using increasingly sophisticated graphics, finishes and decoration techniques to stand out on shelf.
“Being able to hold a physical sample months before production changes the conversation entirely. It allows teams to make informed creative decisions, validate designs with confidence and understand exactly how artwork will translate onto the finished can.
“Because we configure our pilot press to match each commercial printer’s specifications, brands gain realistic production insight while still having the flexibility to refine designs before going to press.”
As brands continue to demand greater speed, flexibility and confidence throughout packaging development, SGX believes dedicated pilot testing will become an increasingly important part of the design process – bridging the gap between creative ambition and production reality while helping brands bring stronger packaging to market.
