Carrefour to halt sales of PepsiCo products

French supermarket chain Carrefour will stop selling PepsiCo products in its stores in a dispute over price rises.

The products will not be sold across supermarkets in France, Italy, Spain and Belgium.

Items affected include cans and bottles of fizzy drinks, Lays and Doritos crisps and Quaker cereals.

Signs in stores have informed customers that the products are no longer available ‘due to unacceptable price rises’.

PepsiCo has continued to raise prices in recent years, pointing to rising costs, and said it expected further hikes in 2024.

Pepsi said it had been in discussion with Carrefour for a number of months.

“We will continue to engage in good faith in order to try to ensure that our products are available,” it said.

France continues to grapple with rising food prices with Carrefour previously putting labels on products warning about ‘shrinkflation’.

Labels were placed on 26 products in its French stores, which said: “This product has seen its volume or weight fall and the effective price from the supplier rise.”
