American Canning files for bankruptcy
Texas-based American Canning has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy as of 31 December 2024.
Among its creditors are Toyo Seikan, as well as Ball Corporation and PakTech with undisclosed sums. Total liabilities exceed $63 million, as reported by the Austin Business Journal.
In 2022, TMP reported on American Canning’s growth, including the establishment of an environmentally friendly aluminum can manufacturing plant and a second shrink-sleeve line. That same year, the company announced the opening of a printed can facility in Austin, aimed at bringing Aluminum Toyo Ultimate Can manufacturing to Texas.
The collaboration between Toyo Seikan and American Canning began in 2020, when Racino and COO Mike Daniel sought solutions to the can packaging shortages facing the craft beverage industry. Toyo Seikan was simultaneously looking to enter the American craft beverage market with a newly developed compact manufacturing line, as detailed in our 2022 coverage.
However, Brewbound reported in September 2024 that Toyo Seikan had ceased operations at its aTULC manufacturing plant.
A creditors meeting is scheduled for 6 February, with the filing notice indicating that there are between 100 and 199 creditors involved.
