Aluminium Deutschland moves headquarters and appoints new MD
Aluminium Deutschland will in future represent its interests independently in Berlin and considerably strengthen its presence in the capital.
This repositioning is accompanied by a change at the top of the association: effective September 1, 2025, Angelika El-Noshokaty will replace the current Managing Director, Marius Baader.
Aluminium Deutschland is the voice of the German aluminium industry and represents the interests of around 150 companies with more than 61,000 employees and an annual turnover of almost €25 billion. Aluminium is the most widely used metal in the world after iron and steel.
“Aluminium is a key material for economic transformation in Germany and Europe,” says Rob van Gils, President of Aluminium Deutschland.
“Nevertheless, our industry is facing unprecedented political challenges. It was therefore essential that we represent the interests of the material and its companies directly and independently in Berlin in the future.”
The focus will be on key areas such as raw materials and circular economy policy, energy, environmental, and sustainability policy, as well as trade and European policy.
The fundamental strategic repositioning of Aluminium Deutschland, decided by its member companies, also includes moving the association’s headquarters from Düsseldorf to Berlin.
Until now, the association had delegated parts of its political advocacy to the German non-ferrous metals industry association WirtschaftsVereinigung Metalle, which it will leave at the end of 2025.
Rob van Gils comments: “After more than a year of intensive debate among our members, it became clear: for the German aluminium industry, focusing on our own material with a strong, independent voice in Berlin and Brussels has become indispensable.”
The relaunch also entails changes in personnel. Marius Baader, Managing Director of Aluminium Deutschland since 2019, will leave the association at his own request to pursue new professional opportunities.
His successor, Angelika El-Noshokaty, will take over as Director General as of September 1, 2025. She brings with her 15 years of experience in political advocacy.
After working in the German Bundestag and in strategic public affairs consulting for industrial companies, she most recently was responsible for German advocacy at Novelis, a leading manufacturer of flat-rolled aluminium products and the world’s largest aluminium recycler, in Berlin.
El-Noshokaty combines in-depth knowledge of the political environment in Berlin and Brussels with extensive experience in political communication and campaign design, and she has a detailed understanding of the challenges facing the aluminium industry through her most recent role.
Rob van Gils emphasises: “With Angelika El-Noshokaty, Aluminium Deutschland has gained a Director General who is intimately familiar with both the Berlin political scene and our material. She has everything it takes to successfully lead our association through the transformation and beyond.
At the same time, van Gils acknowledged the work of her predecessor: “Marius Baader modernized and continuously developed the association during his tenure. On behalf of our member companies, I would like to thank him for his achievements.”
