Annual Corridor CANstruction event collects 5206 food cans
The annual Corridor CANstruction event at Coral Ridge Mall has come to a close, turning creativity with canned food into meaningful community impact.
This year’s competition gathered an impressive 5,206 cans of food, all of which will be donated to CommUnity Food Bank and the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition to help hundreds of families across eastern Iowa.
From November 1–8, seven teams representing local businesses transformed ordinary cans into extraordinary works of art—building large-scale sculptures entirely from metal packaging and other shelf-stable items. Visitors were invited to vote for their favourite display through the popular “People’s Choice” award before every can was carefully boxed up for donation.
CommUnity Crisis Services celebrated the outcome on social media, noting that the generous effort will make a real difference for families in need this holiday season.
At its heart, CANstruction is a reminder of how sustainable metal packaging not only protects food and preserves nutrition but also plays a vital role in fighting hunger. When creativity meets compassion, even the simplest can becomes a symbol of strength, community, and care.
