New canning line at Nizam Brewery

United Breweries Limited (UBL), a Heineken Company subsidiary and among India’s top brewers, has brought a new canning line online at its Nizam Brewery in Telangana. The move boosts manufacturing output and deepens the company’s foothold in the state’s expanding beer sector.

Built under the ₹90 crore investment UBL unveiled in 2025, the facility has already started operating, with Kingfisher Ultra cans rolling off the line in an initial trial run.

The upgrade lifts the brewery’s yearly output by 0.4 million hectolitres, taking total capacity from 0.5 million to 0.9 million hectolitres, according to a company statement.

The line will mainly serve UBL’s premium range — Kingfisher, Kingfisher Ultra and Heineken — as shoppers increasingly reach for canned beer. UBL framed the spend as a way to drive premiumisation, sharpen supply chain performance and keep pace with shifting demand.

The company noted that thorough planning and coordinated execution allowed the work to proceed without disrupting existing bottling operations. Value engineering played a role too, with reused infrastructure and operational tweaks helping trim costs and speed up the timeline.

Vivek Gupta, UBL’s Managing Director and CEO, described the launch as a meaningful move toward bolstering the brewer’s production strength and responding to evolving tastes.

“The investment reflects our confidence in the long-term growth of the beer category and our commitment to accelerating premiumisation through enhanced manufacturing capabilities. The new facility strengthens our supply chain, supports our premium portfolio and positions us for sustainable growth,” he said.

UBL added that the project reinforces its supply chain across Telangana, a major market for the category, and underscores a broader approach centred on capacity growth, innovation and premium offerings.
